Board of Directors

The Hamilton Families Board of Directors meets a minimum of six times a year. Two board meetings each year are open to the public and include opportunities for public comment. Public notice of open board meetings is posted through the Government Information Center at the main branch of the San Francisco Public Library and by the Clerk of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.

René Picazo, Board President René Picazo, Board President

René Picazo is a managing director and senior relationship manager with the Global Institutional Capital Group (GICG) team at Wells Fargo Securities and is responsible for the majority of west coast institutional relationships. He has an extensive background in finance and credit both in the U.S. and abroad. René obtained a B.A. in government, with a minor in Spanish from Georgetown University in Washington D.C. René joined the board of directors in July 2014. In addition to board president, René chairs the Finance Committee and serves on the Executive Committee.

David Goldin, Vice President David Goldin, Vice President

David Goldin is Chief Facilities Officer for the San Francisco Unified School District, where he directs the District’s $1.5 billion school construction program, nine operational departments and a staff of over 500 people. He received his undergraduate and Master of Architecture degrees from the University of California, Berkeley and studied architecture and planning at Lund University in Sweden. David joined the board of directors in March 2015 and serves on the Finance and Governance Committees.

Jason Mandell, Treasurer Jason Mandell, Treasurer

Jason Mandell is Co-Founder and Principal at LaunchSquad. Based in San Francisco with offices in New York and Boston, LaunchSquad is one of the leading PR firms focused on emerging technologies and innovation. Jason has also volunteered at First Graduate, which helps San Francisco’s young people graduate from high school and become the first in their families to graduate from college. He joined the board of directors in February 2012 and serves on the Communications & Audit Committees.

Tom Lue, Secretary Tom Lue, Secretary

Tom Lue is Legal Counsel for Google’s Advanced Technology and Projects (ATAP) group and Google [x],where he advises on emerging technologies. He is a legal lecturer at Stanford Law School and was previously at the White House Office of Management and Budget and the U.S. Department of Justice. He served as a law clerk for Justice Sotomayor on the U.S. Supreme Court and graduated from Harvard Law School. Tom joined the board of directors in June 2015 and chairs the Governance Committee.

Clayton Smudsky, Past President Clayton Smudsky, Past President

Clayton Smudsky is Managing Director, Head of Distribution at SoFi Securities. He received a Bachelor of Sciences in English and Economics from Ohio Wesleyan University, and a Masters of Business Administration in Economics from the University of San Francisco, Masagung Graduate School of Management. He joined the board of directors in July 2012 and serves on the Executive Committee.

Lea Banducci Lea Banducci

Lea Banducci is the Vice President of Human Resources at Macquarie AirFinance where she is responsible for the development and day to day direction of all aspects of the domestic and international Human Resource function. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from University of California, Davis. Lea joined the board of directors in November 2015 and serves on the Human Resources Committee.

Julian Basler Julian Basler

Julian Basler is Managing Director of Structured Finance Technology at Moody’s Analytics. With over 17 years of experience, he is a leading professional in the structured finance industry. Julian received his Master of Science degree in Applied Physics at Stanford University. He joined the board of directors in November 2015 and serves on the Finance Committee.

Ruth Bernstein Ruth Bernstein

Ruth is a Senior Principal at EMC Research, a national public opinion research firm. Heading up the firm’s California office she is considered one of the leading pollsters in the state, directing research on electoral, policy, non-profit and corporate issues. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Smith College. Ruth joined the board of directors in October 2017.

Paige Miller Buck Paige Miller Buck

Paige Miller Buck is a partner at Kennedy Events LLC where she leads a team of ten in producing conferences, fundraisers, and celebrations for leading businesses and nonprofits. She received a Bachelor of Science in Theater from Skidmore College. Paige joined the board of directors in October 2017.

Elizabeth Groeger Elizabeth Groeger

Elizabeth Groeger is Assistant Manager for Morgan Stanley’s Wealth Management Offices in San Francisco. Liz initially partnered with Hamilton in 2014 through her participation in the Morgan Stanley Strategy Challenge, a program that pairs Morgan Stanley employees with nonprofit organizations to collaborate on solving critical strategic challenges. She worked with Hamilton Families to analyze and enhance its rapid re-housing program. The project won second place in the 2014 Morgan Stanley Strategy Challenge and Hamilton implemented the recommendations to increase efficiency and expand its rapid re-housing program. Liz joined the board of directors in January of 2015 and chairs the Development Committee.

Alisa Groocock Alisa Groocock

Alisa Groocock is a Research Director at SiriusDecisions, a research and advisory firm focused on delivering operational intelligence to sales, marketing, and product leaders in the B2B space. She holds a Master’s in Business Administration from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. Alisa joined the board of directors in October 2017.

Ann Iannuccillo Ann Iannuccillo

Ann Iannuccillo is Investor and Strategic Consultant at Iannuccillo Family Investments. She has non-profit experience both as the former executive director of the Foundation for the National Medals of Science and Technology, as well as an active volunteer in various Bay Area organizations. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing and Economics from the University of Arizona and a Masters of Business Administration from Harvard Business School. She joined the board of directors in January 2016 and serves on the Development Committee.

Mary Scott Mary Scott

Mary Scott is Chair of Graphic Design at the Academy of Art University, a position she has held since 1999. Prior to this post, she taught at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and at Otis College of Art & Design in Los Angeles, and for more than 25 years she was Vice-President and Director of Creative Operations for Maddocks & Company. She joined the board of directors in June 2013 and serves on the Audit Committee.

Rhonda Simmons Rhonda Simmons

Rhonda Simmons is the Director of Cultural Competency & Workforce Development for the Department of Public Health with the City and County of San Francisco. She has extensive background in senior leadership in both the nonprofit and government sectors. She holds a Masters of Public Health and a Masters of Social Work from the University of Washington. Rhonda joined the board of directors in October 2017.

Susan Toland Susan Toland

Susan Toland is the founder of Toland and Co. Strategic Communications. She has expertise in communications strategy, marketing, and public relations, with a focus on crisis communications, brand messaging and customer experience. Having been deeply involved as a volunteer with humanitarian assistance and disaster relief through San Francisco Fleet Week Association, Susan joined their board in 2017. She holds a Bachelors of Arts in English Literature from the University of California at Berkeley. Susan joined the board of directors in October 2017.
