Teen Empowerment

One of the teens’ mom shared with staff that the career panel had been the highlight of his day, and now he can’t stop talking about how he wants to find a coding internship for the summer!

3rd Annual

Teen Empowerment Event!

The Children’s Services at Hamilton Families works to support the particular needs of teens staying at our shelters by offering ongoing programming specifically for teens – anything from helping them apply to summer internships or going out for pizza and a movie! Each year we kick off spring break with an event aimed at offering teens a caring space where they could be themselves and explore their dreams.

This year, Teens A.C.T (Teens Aspiring to Change Tomorrow) continued to be a memorable day for the teens, as well as, staff and volunteers. Teens from all HFC programs were able to connect and relate to each other throughout the day. An exciting improvement this year, staff were able to fully accomodate mono-lingual spanish speaking teens, making this our first ever Bilingual Teen Empowerment Event!

This year’s keynote speaker addressed violence in the community, and encouraged teens to find a positive alternative to fighting in the streets. Teens got to explore their future aspirations in break-out career panels then, ended the day with a chance to express themselves through new haircuts, make-up, and a hula-hooping dance party to a live DJ.

Stylists gave teens fresh hair-cuts & new looks!

We want to thank everyone who made this possible. With your time and your compassion, you are making a statement that homelessness is unacceptable and that every one of these teens deserves a place to call home. You are part of the solution to make that happen.

Will you join us?

We are so encouraged by the success of this event, we’re already starting to think about what comes next. We’ll certainly do another teen event, and are exploring the idea of something similar for the parents. Share your inspiring thoughts and ideas with us and let us know if you’d like to get involved.

We’re of course always grateful for your financial support as well if you’d like to contribute. Please consider a donation to keep up the momentum!

Thanks for coming alongside us to end homelessness in San Francisco.
