Heading Home Campaign
The Heading Home Campaign is a $30mm initiative to house 800 homeless families by 2019 as part of an effort to end long-term family homelessness in San Francisco.
We’ve reached 33% of our goal!
There are more than 1,800 homeless students in San Francisco’s public schools – translating to approximately 1,145 families that do not have stable housing. This is both unacceptable and completely solvable. The Heading Home Campaign will help at least 800 families with students in the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) find permanent housing by 2019. This effort will support San Francisco’s broader goal of ending long-term family homelessness.
the approach Rapid Re-housing
Our Heading Home Campaign represents Hamilton Families’ systematic response to the unacceptable reality of family homelessness in San Francisco. The campaign outlines an evidence-based, data-driven plan to scale up our rapid re-housing program. This effort will reduce the amount of time a family experiences homelessness from today’s average of 414 days to a maximum of 90 days. Our goal is to ensure that homeless families in San Francisco have immediate access to shelter and the services they need to find permanent housing and move beyond homelessness.
Rapid re-housing is an intervention designed to help individuals and families quickly exit homelessness and return to permanent housing. Rapid re-housing assistance is offered without preconditions — like employment, income, absence of criminal record, or sobriety — and the resources and services provided are tailored to the unique needs of the household.
our results Being Accountable
- Last fiscal year, we helped 237 families successfully move into permanent housing.
- 92% of families housed with rental assistance have retained their housing.
- Our case managers connect with families on at least a monthly basis to ensure they arefollowing through with their plan, increasing their income, and connecting in their community.
- We will share the progress of the campaign with quarterly email updates as well as more frequent updates and testimonials on our website.
