I’m proud to announce the premiere of “About a Home” — an intimate portrait of a Bay Area family helped by Hamilton Families who were affected by the housing crisis — in the Slamdance 2021 Film Festival!

Two years ago on the rooftop of the Hamilton Families | Shelter, Google.org and Susan Wojcicki, Chief Executive Officer for YouTube, announced a $1.35M donation which would partially be used to develop and produce a series of documentaries to tell the real-life stories of families in our programs, and to inspire our community to support our mission to end family homelessness in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Hamilton Families seeks to break the cycle of poverty for the families we serve by supporting families’ efforts to stabilize and thrive as they move from homelessness into housing and settle into their new communities. To help bring attention to the stories of those families, we partnered with San Francisco-based media maker BAVC to produce three documentaries, each on a family who has participated in one of our programs. “About a Home” is one of those documentaries.

In “About a Home,” directors Daniel Chein and Elizabeth Lo share the story of Hamilton Families participant Precious Sarria and her family who experienced housing insecurity for over two years. After transitioning into housing, they documented their lives to raise awareness for the rising homelessness in the Bay Area.

Running Feb. 12–25, 2021, “About a Home” will premiere in the Slamdance 2021 Film Festival, which will also be Slamdance’s most accessible festival ever, with all films, Q&A’s, and panels available on Slamdance.com, AppleTV, Roku, Firestick, and YouTube. Virtual festival passes are $10 which gets you all the access you want including 25 features and 107 short films.
