How are you supporting Homelessness Awareness Month on Election Day?

Last week, I was part of a powerful conversation about how to best meet the needs of people and communities experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity in the San Francisco Bay Area. It was a rare opportunity to hear from some brilliant community leaders — Tomiquia Moss and Sherilyn Adams — about our collective drive to end homelessness. In a nutshell, it means we need to end poverty, we need to support reproductive rights, we need to ensure food access, to support the mental health of parents and children, and that begins with YOU.

One of the most powerful tools in the hands of regular folks to spread the urgency of housing and racial justice, to build alliances, and to advance policy change, is advocacy

From walk outs to legal campaigns, from creative social media posts to negotiation rooms, Bay Area residents — both housed and unhoused — are already tirelessly advocating for people and families experiencing homelessness. However, despite this passion and commitment, many people and families may still be asking: “how can I advocate to end homelessness, particularly family homelessness, in the San Francisco Bay Area?” As our community continues to move mountains to fight for our present and future, it is critical that we find creative solutions and create conversations to overcome such entrenched challenges.

I hope you — our Hamilton Heroes — will continue to listen with open ears, see with open eyes, and think with open minds during Homelessness Awareness Month and every month afterwards as we all come together to help unhoused families in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Unsure how to vote on housing in San Francisco? Get our Housing Voter Guide

We activate community members on housing and homelessness issue areas that will achieve more inclusive services and growth, specifically for low-income families and families of color. In San Francisco and California, much of this policy change happens on the ballot, and many of the ballot initiatives—especially the local ones—can be hard to understand.
