It takes a family to house a family

Recruiting, cultivating, and retaining qualified and inspired frontline workers are essential to Hamilton Families’ mission to end family homelessness in the San Francisco Bay Area. The increasing number of families without housing, skyrocketing levels of domestic and community violence, and a growing demand for affordable housing have presented service providers like us with incredible challenges. Even though great strides have been made to address homelessness in the San Francisco Bay Area, the social service sector’s high turnover rate significantly impacts service delivery, making it difficult for us serve the most vulnerable families in our communities.

Without staff, homeless service providers cannot function.

Hamilton Families sees an opportunity to invest in our most valuable asset—our staff—who are deeply committed to housing and helping families in our communities. As part of our strategic plan, we are building a robust workforce by refining our recruitment and retention strategies, creating growth opportunities, and strengthening relationships among staff. This means promoting accountability and ownership and continuous assurance that women, staff of color, and LGBTQIA+ staff, feel seen, heard, and understood.

Our Chief People Officer Wendy Lee said it best: “Hamilton Families’ staff investments are focused on valuing employees—with an ultimate goal of retention and recruitment. Our primary focus is fair, equitable compensation and strengthened professional development for job success and career advancement opportunities. We believe these investments strengthen our ability to best support low-income and families of color in our community.”

I couldn’t agree with her more; without our staff at Hamilton Families, our mission of ending family homelessness in the San Francisco Bay Area cannot be achieved.

In community,

Kyriell Noon
